NETTIE M. SLACUM

Nettie M. Lowe Slacum, 100 years of age, of Cambridge, MD, died at her home, Friday afternoon, May 13, 2011.

Born on August 8, 1910 in Dorchester County, MD, she was the daughter for the late Craig Lowe and Lilly Willey Lowe.

On July 21, 1928 she married George Washington Slacum. He died on August 31, 1990.

Mrs. Slacum was a devoted member of the Cambridge Wesleyan Church.

Mrs. Slacum worked as a seamstress for Rob Roy on Meadow Avenue for several years. For fifteen years she had worked for Cambridge Wire Cloth.

Her hobbies included sewing, baking and flower gardening.

Surviving is a daughter Georgia Wheatley (Ollie); a son James Slacum (Ann); two sisters Alice Peters and Madeline Slacum, all of Cambridge; three grandchildren Kenneth Wheatley (Michelle), Debbie Collison (Ricky), David Slacum (Sharon); seven great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four great-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a sister Mary Hurley; four brothers Ike, Hubert, Cecil and Billy Lowe; and a grandson Eddie Slacum.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Cambridge Wesleyan Church, 803 Race Street, Cambridge, on Tuesday, May 17th where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. David Wooten. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her family members Kenneth Wheatley, David Slacum, Ricky Collison, Terry Messick, Eddie Slacum and Michael Wheatley.
