Robert J. Simmons, 86, of Cambridge, MD passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, November 25, 2018 at Mallard Bay Care Center.
Born August 24, 1932 in Golden Hill, Robert was the youngest of the eight children born to the late Caleb A. and Mary Cousin Simmons. He grew up in Golden Hill and attended the local schools.
Robert made his career in the lumber industry. He was Superintendent with Spicer Lumber Company. After more than 35 years of service he retired. After retirement he was employed with Chesapeake Wood Products Inc. Robert was a lifetime member of Cambridge Moose Lodge 1211 and a member of St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Robert greatly enjoyed antiques and collectables. He often would be seen out antique shopping for that special find. His friends were amazed at his memory, without hesitation he could quickly recall dates and facts. Tall, neat and distinguished, Robert had the appearance and the personality of a gentleman and a true gentleman he always was.
Robert is survived by a number of nephews, nieces and many friends.
Preceding him in death besides his parents are siblings John Simmons, Mary Hollander, Sara Gootee, Elizabeth Dodson, Florence Turner, Ruth Willey and Dorothy Belanga.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 30, 2018 beginning 11 am at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A. A viewing will be held the hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Father Bruce Byrolly. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews.
