Robert F. Travis, 72, of Golden Hill passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Perry Point Veterans Hospital in Perry Point, Maryland.

Born on March 2, 1949 in Dorchester County, he was the son of Lula Travers Travis and the late Samuel Travis.

Robert attended the local schools and graduated from South Dorchester High School with the class of 1967.

After graduating from school, Robert joined the U.S. Army in 1968 and proudly served his country.  He was honorably discharged in 1972 after spending 4 years of Secret Service duty. In addition to serving in Vietnam, he also served for 9 months in Okinawa. He received the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.

On July 7, 1995, Robert married the former Connie Marine.

He was self-employed as a waterman where he loved working the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.  Robert also worked at Spicer’s Lumber Company and Chesapeake Wood Product in years past.

When Robert was not working, he enjoyed going to the American Legion Post #91 to shoot the breeze.

Surviving him are his children John, Scotty, Kimberly, Fulton, Monica King, and David Travis(Erika); grandchildren Arthur and Kathy King; sisters Racheal Wilcox(Donnie) and Sally Travis.

Preceding him in death besides his father was brothers LeRoy, Richard and Ralph Travis.

A viewing and visitation with family will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, Cambridge from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Hurlock, MD beginning 1 p.m. with military honors.  Officiating will be Rev. Richard Prahl.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, 308 High St., Cambridge, MD 21613 to help defray the funeral cost.
