Sidney Stokes Keyes, Sr., age 92, of Cambridge, MD, died Friday night, February 11, 2011 at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge, MD where he was a resident for the past four years.
Born on January 25, 1919 in The Neck District, Cambridge, MD, he was the son of the late John Keyes and Mary Edith Mills Keyes Dail and step-son of Tom Dail.
Mr. Keyes was the husband of the late Delia Mae Riley Keyes who died on January 11, 1972.
Mr. Keyes had been a caretaker for the property of Mr. Frank Moore and Mr. Jody Powell, Press Secretary for the former President Jimmy Carter. Mr. Keyes was also a farmer.
Mr. Keyes was a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Cornerville.
In his earlier years, Mr. Keyes was an avid bowler. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing and raccoon hunting. He also enjoyed the many memorable times he spent at his second home, Lewis University at John Lewis’ Store. Mr. Keyes had also been a member of the Neck District Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving is a son Sidney S. Keyes, Jr. and his wife Alice of Higgins Mill Pond, Cambridge, MD; a son-in-law Joe Wanex of Secretary, MD; a brother Howard Keyes and his wife Helen of The Neck District, Cambridge, MD; a sister Edith Riggins of Cambridge, MD; eight grandchildren Tina Thomas and her husband Dale, Edie Wanex, Penny Rossy, Eddie Wanex and his wife Bonnie, Jeffrey Keyes, Kevin Keyes, Sherry Thomas and Chris Ruark and his wife Michelle; eight great-grandchildren Amy Ruark, Scott Thomas, Hope Thomas, Michael Rossy, Jordan Rossy, Ashley Keyes, Victoria Keyes and Tyler Keyes.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were two daughters Donna Ruark and Phyllis Wanex; a son-in-law Jimmy Ruark; three brothers Johnny, Travers and Clarence Keyes; a sister Anne Grasmick; and a grandson Joey Wanex.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15th at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Walter Reushchling, Vicar.
Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.
