Stephen Lewis

Stephen T. “Steve” Lewis, 67, of Church Creek, MD passed away on Sunday, February, 23, 2014 at UMSMC at Dorchester.
Born February 8, 1947, he was a son of Doris E. Shenton Lewis and the late Wilbert H. Lewis, Sr. He grew up and attended schools in Severn, MD. In 1975, he moved to Hoopers Island and became the proprietor of Hoopers Island Hardware Company. He operated the business for over 35 years.
Steve had been very active in his communities. Before moving to the area, he was a member of Odenton Volunteer Fire Company. Since living in South Dorchester, he was a life member of Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Company serving as a past President and Assistant Chief. He had also served as President of the Dorchester County Volunteer Fireman’s Association. Other hobbies included boating, fishing and since his retirement enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving besides his mother, is a special friend, Betty Jane Elliott; brothers Wilbert H. Lewis, Jr. and wife Jacqueline, Daniel Lewis and wife Karen, David W. Lewis and wife Gloria, Richard Lewis and wife Diane.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 27, 2014 beginning 1 p.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. till the service begins. Officiating the service will be Pastor George Wheatley, Jr.
Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Company.
