THELMA JONES TREGO
Thelma Jones Trego of Cambridge, MD, died at home Friday, February 6, 2009 after a lengthy illness. She was 83.
Born on March 29, 1925 in Toddville, Dorchester County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Orlie B. Jones and Nellie Windsor Jones. After graduating from Crapo High School she moved to Cambridge. On November 11, 1944 she married Melvin Eldridge Trego. For most of her working life she worked as a beautician. She enjoyed much traveling with her husband and was noted as an excellent cook. She was also an avid flower gardener.
Mrs. Trego was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Cambridge. For several years she was an active volunteer at the Flower Fair. Mrs. Trego was also a long-time volunteer of the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary. For many years she worked with the Reach to Recovery Program. A cancer survivor herself, she found satisfaction in helping other women.
Surviving is her husband of 64 years, Melvin E. Trego of Cambridge, MD; a daughter Vicki Trego Hill and her husband Shawn of El Paso, TX; three grandchildren Mona Pennypacker of Ft. Collins, CO, Rose Hill of El Paso, TX, and Morgwn Pennypacker and Janette Aguire and son Sebastian of Miami Beach, FL; a great-granddaughter Kacy McClung Pennypacker of Baltimore, MD; a niece Sharon Todd Fields and her husband Wayne of Salisbury, MD; and a cousin Bonnie Rimpo of Cambridge, MD.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Avalon Jones Todd and her husband Leroy Todd.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, February 9th from 7 to 9 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 10th at Noon, where the family will also receive friends an hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Douglas S. Albert, Coastal Hospice Chaplain. Burial will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, MD.
Pallbearers will be: Morgwn Pennypacker, Shawn Hill, Wayne Fields, Robert Cannon, Read Trego and Michael Trego.
