Todd Hamilton Ruark, born in Cambridge, Maryland on January 28, 1981, and passed away on May 7, 2022, after a long battle with addiction. Despite many attempts to stay clean, he succumbed to his disease, leaving his family and friends heartbroken. His family honors his attempts at sobriety and feels grateful for the good times they shared. They share this grief with thousands of other families who experience the crisis of addiction.
Todd had a big personality and did everything big. He was charming, funny, and caring. He felt things so deeply that it left his soul at times too troubled to bear them, but his exuberance for life touched everyone around him. He loved the outdoors and animals; as a child, he brought home random critters or strays. Many of his greatest moments were spent on the water, working side by side with his father and later working on his own. He passed on that joy to his children, taking them fishing, crabbing, and exploring the outdoors. He loved his children with his whole heart and wanted them to find the happiness that the natural world offers.
Todd leaves behind his mother, Joy Russ Ruark, daughters Codi Marie Ruark and Cori Jo Ruark, Caleb Colbourne whom he thought of as a son, and their mother, Ashley Grant his co-parent, best friend, and love of his life. He also leaves a sister, Laura Ruark Moore (Erik Anderson), nephew Jacob Moore, niece Lucille Anderson, aunts Carol Messick and Nora Hubbard and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Alvin (Buddy) Ruark Jr. Grandparents William Alvin Ruark Sr. and Rebecca Bandy Ruark, Howard (Pete) Russ, Lucille Todd Russ Grant Kauffman, and step-grandfather John Jacob Kauffman, as well as uncles Phillip Russ and Terry Ruark.
A memorial service will be on Sunday, May 15th, at 3:00 PM at Gerry Boyle Park at Great Marsh, Cambridge, Maryland. Please join his family and friends as they remember him at one of his favorite places, where he played as a child, and later with his own children, by the water that he loved.
Memorial contributions in Todd's name can be sent to Charlie's Place c/o Rob Collison, 311 High Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
