WALTER E. ADAMS, SR.
Walter Edward Adams, Sr., age 85, of Easton, Maryland, died at his home, Thursday morning, November 8, 2007.
Born on November 5, 1922 in Dayton, Maine, he was the son of the late Earl and Elsie VanDusen Adams. He attended Franklin School in Dayton, a one room schoolhouse which still stands.
Walter served his country during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater in Guam. He was honorably discharged having been awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
He married Bette Carter upon returning from the service. Judge Wesley Mewer performed the ceremony at the home of the bride before members of both families and friends.
Mr. Adams worked as a lineman for various electrical construction outfits with the IBEW for twenty five years and as a machinist at Peck and Hale Company in Sayville, NY, from where he retired.
He enjoyed playing softball in his younger years and pool in his later years.
Surviving is his wife Bette Adams of Easton, MD; a son Walter Adams and his wife Sherry of Gambrills, MD; a daughter Sherry Hoefer and her husband Steve of Crapo, MD; a sister Marian Hanson of Naples, FL; a brother Earl Adams and his wife Patricia of Goodwins Mills, Maine; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was his first granddaughter Valerie Adams; four sisters Bertha, Dorothy, Grace, Gladys and Mildred.
A private inurnment service will be held at The Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Mr. Adams’ memory to The Hospice Foundation Inc., 586 Cynwood Dr., Easton, MD 21601.
Arrangements are in the care of Mid Shore Cremation Center, Cambridge, MD.
