William L. “Billy” Gootee, Jr., 73, of Crapo, MD passed away peacefully Saturday, January 25, 2020 at UMSMC@Easton.
Born December 11, 1946 in Cambridge, he was a son of the late Mary Irene Hughes Gootee and W. Leonard Gootee, Sr. Billy attended Crapo elementary school and graduated from South Dorchester High with the Class of 1964. He worked for various local businesses and was a property caretaker for a number of years.
During his younger years, Billy enjoyed fishing, hunting and horseback riding with his favorite horse Buck. As he got older Billy starting enjoying solving jigsaw puzzles. He had a passion for western movies and a tremendous love of animals. A kind gentle soul with a big heart, Billy touched many lives and will be missed by family and the community.
Billy was a member of the Maryland National Guard, the Cambridge Moose and had been a member of Lakes and Straits Volunteer Fire Company. He attended St. John’s United Methodist Church in Golden Hill.
He is survived by a brother Robert Larry Gootee (Kathy) of Cambridge, MD; a sister Linda Gootee Phillips (Jackie) of Golden Hill, MD; a special companion Darlene Robbins of Crapo, MD; nephew Bob Gootee; nieces Shawn Phillips Wampler and Robin Gootee Dukes and their families; an aunt Mildred Gootee Shorter of Golden Hill, MD along with numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020 beginning 12:00 noon at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Dan Gustafson.
A private family interment will be held at the Gootee Family Cemetery in Golden Hill.
