WOODROW WILLEY, SR

Woodrow W. Willey, Sr., age 89, of Dagsboro, DE, died Monday, April 20, 2009 at his home.

Born on December 14, 1919 in Drawbridge, Dorchester County, MD, he was the son of the late Riley James Willey and Elsie May Willey.

Mr. Willey was educated in Dorchester County schools.

On July 5, 1941 he married the former Irene Brohawn. She died on October 10, 1983.

As a younger man, he became employed at Delmarva Power working initially at the Vienna Power Plant before being transferred to the Indian River Power Plant. He and his wife moved to Frankford, DE and in 1960 he completely built their family home in Dagsboro, the very home in which he died. He retired after thirty seven years of employment with Delmarva Power and was a member of the Vingt Cinq Club.

Mr. Willey was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Dagsboro, DE. He had also been a member of the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department and the Dagsboro Lions Club.

Mr. Willey was an avid fisherman.

Surviving is his son Woodrow W. Willey, Jr. and his wife Eileen of Annapolis, MD; twelve nieces Shirley Lewis and her husband John, Joanne Potter and her husband Bill, Susie Vickers and her husband Jerry, Gail Brohawn, Linda Robertson, Sylvia Brohawn, Frances Rue and her husband John, Norma and Joan Mills, Carolyn Donaway, Jane McQuate all of Cambridge, MD and Patricia Holland; sisters-in-law Eula Willey of North Carolina, Frieda Brohawn, and Virginia Dincent; brother-in-law Hubert Brohawn; ten nephews Gary Hurley and his wife Diane of Valley Lee, MD, Wayne Brohawn and his wife Yvonne, Ray Brohawn and his wife Carol, Steve Willey, Howard Brohawn and his wife Diane, Hubert Brohawn, Jr. and his wife Ann, Gary Brohawn and his wife Carol, Steve Brohawn and his wife Barbara, Tommy Mills and his wife Brenda, Robbie Brohawn of all of Cambridge, MD; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were two sisters Thelma Brohawn and her husband Robert, Lucy Hurley and her husband Leon; two brothers Vernon Willey and Emerson Willey; a niece Cleona Tennant; eight nephews Ronnie Willey, Wallace Willey, Daniel Willey, Larry Willey, Douglas Willey, Rupert Murphy, Charles Brohawn, Vernon Mills; sisters-in-law Shirley Brohawn, Louise Murphy, and Mariam Mills; brothers-in-law Vaughn Brohawn, James Brohawn, and Thomas Mills and great-nephews and great-nieces..

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 25th from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, 308 High St., Cambridge, MD, where the funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Carol Svecz. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
